Narragansett Turkeys

 We began raising Narragansetts in 1986 and over the years have tried Bourbon Reds, Lilacs, Chocolates, Slates, and Commercial Whites.  The Narragansetts have consistently done the best on our farm, so we’ve settled on that variety.

Another factor in that decision was the result of a study done by ALBC, a number of producers (including SVF,) and the VA-MD Regional Veterinary School comparing Heritage and Commercial Whites using in-field management as well as genetic testing.  The Narragansetts were notably superior to other varieties.  link to the ALBC report on the project by Marjorie Bender for more information.
